Improving Comfort Without Adding Ductwork

Your HVAC system plays a huge role in how comfortable your home is. If it doesn’t currently have ductwork, it may still be possible to improve your comfort. There are several easy options that can help you enjoy better comfort without adding any ductwork.

Apply Window Film

Applying solar window film is an easy project homeowners can do to reduce glare and block heat. It also helps block UV rays from entering your rooms, which is a major way to help prevent floor and furniture fading. Many types of solar window film kits are available, so you can easily find one that works best for your home.

Use Gap Filler

Gaps around your windows and doors are often small but can let a lot of cool air out and hot air in during the summer. Using a gap filler to seal these spaces helps stop the issue. However, in the case of severe damage, you may need to replace the trim. Avoid applying the gap filler on a windy and/or rainy day so it has a chance to dry properly.

Use Draft Blockers

Draft blockers are easy to slip right under each exterior door to help keep the cool air from escaping underneath. They’re typically designed to be waterproof. Some require screwing or nailing them to the door, while others stay in place without the hardware. Before purchasing draft blockers, measure your doors so you get the correct size.

Install Ductless Mini-Splits

A ductless mini-split system consists of multiple indoor and outdoor parts. There’s typically one outdoor unit, a line set, and one or more indoor units. They don’t require any ductwork, so they’re a good option for a range of spaces, from living rooms to freestanding garages. They offer zoned cooling and heating in every season, so you can set different temperatures in each room. Have an HVAC professional install them so you can trust that they work safely and efficiently.

Change Your Insulation

How long your home’s insulation will last can vary, but you’ll notice signs when it’s time to replace it. Uneven temperatures, poor indoor comfort, and energy bills that are high for no clear reason are just a few of them. If you notice that the insulation is infested with pests, compacted, moldy, or falling apart, it’s time to upgrade it.
